BD in Japan

Random pic from Japan: Naima + Chu-Hi
(I have no BD  Japan pics.)

KC sent me a cool article on the BD scene in Japan. Belly dancing in Japan | CNNGo.com. I keep up on my Japanese BD by follwoing Ozma's blog and Mishaal's site. There are other sites and blogs but these 2 are English and I don't have to decipher with a translator.

In other news, The Husband Person's sister had a baby boy on Mar 30th. We are heading over to the Tulsa, OK. area this weekend to visit.

Bebop Bebop!

It's a secret no more! Three lovely ladies and I will be performing a +15min. set to the music of Cowboy Bebop at this year's Visioncon (Sci-fi, fantasy, comic, gaming convention) during the Masquerade intermission. The Masquerade starts at 6pm on Saturday Jan. 23rd, 2010. No this isn't bellydance. The four of us just happen to be bellydancers.

Cowboy Bebop

(Remember - we are doing this BEFORE they decide to ruin it by making it into a live action movie staring Keanu Reeves. Don't get me wrong. I like Keanu, and Cowboy Bebop, and will definately go to see it, and probably buy it on DVD. I'm just saying...)

Japanese BD sampler

Now playing: AVP
mood: Japanese

We saw part of a special on PBS called Kokoyakyu: High School Baseball on Sunday. There was a snippet of a mother preparing breakfast and bento for her family. OMG I need some Japanese food! None of this Mid-West American crap they try to pass off as Japanese food.

Anyway, the video above is a sample of some dancers in Japan. I cannot read the Japanese so I am not entirely sure where this was. Pretty sure in Tokyo though.

Below is a from the same video but only of the dancer Farasha. I particularly like her arms and posture. Very feminine and elegant. I was going to point out her slot in the first video but it conveniently has it's own clip. Enjoy!

Now playing: Barbecue U on PBS
mood: black beans

Here's a little somethin' somethin' I ran across on the internets about Maid Cafes in Japan. Totally unrelated to my blog.

I'm going to swing by GDC tonight for their 1yr Ann. I will take my camera.

Death Note

Now playing: Cowboy Bebop
mood: curly fries

It is taking me a few days to write about the workshop. We went to see Death Note the movie last night (Tues). It was my first exposure to the manga and anime, and I liked it, but the 12-14 yr old kids who laughed at everything sucked.

LOOK people sleeping- LAUGHTER, people walking- LAUGHTER, people dying- LAUGHTER, the wind blowing- LAUGHTER! Yeah, so that sucked, but I liked the movie.

Anyone have pics from the workshop?

Elijah

Now playing: Samurai Champloo
mood: long john silvers

During our April 2006 trip to Tokyo, we went to see a show hosted by Mishaal featuring Elijah Sound.

It was in a tiny bar/lounge on the second floor crammed full of people sitting on the floor and the few pieces of furniture.

After Elijah's performance we all vacated out onto the balcony for fresh air. Jman snapped this pic of Elijah with sweat literally steaming off of him from the temperature change. It was kind of trippy.

So I taped an "how to apply false eyelashes" video but my computer doesn't like my handycam anymore. There is a problem with the driver. I am going to have to do some computer magic in order to get it uploaded.

Bellydance in Japan

*UPDATE* 12/12/07
I found this word AMERIKANTORAIBARU on a Japanese Dance studio site for an American Tribal class. Sound it out...American Tribal. How cool is that?

Here is also a link to another Japanese dance company. Looks to have a much more Classical Raks Sharki influence. www.dancearab.com

The more link hopping I do the more neat stuff I find.

Now playing: Rupert purring (not a band...real live animal)
mood: something greasy

Two of my favorite-ist things (yes, that's a word) Bellydance AND Japan!

And for variety... a video of Sarashukra another Tribal Troupe

Got more Japanese Bellydance links? Post them in the comments.

FYI: for pages not in English, you can paste the web page's address in a Google search. When it lists the link in the search there will also be a "translate this" link. Click it and it will give you a translated, albeit messy, page to view.
