Visioncon2010 Dance Pics

I haven't taken the time to thank the ladies pictured above for all of the time and effort they put into helping me realize my Cowboy Bebop choreo performed for the Visioncon masquerade half time. I really appreciated them putting up with my inability to make complete sentences and goofy ideas. I had a lot of fun and I'm very glad we all got to dance together.

This is hopefully the last set of crappy dance pics you will see from my old camera. And...since I'm so bad at remembering dance names and such I will just leave everyone's name off so no one will know who I can and can't remember.

It's like pleading the 5th amendment. Only lazier.

Zoom

I've assembled the cups and straps of the bra. The center is only tacked together so I can work on each side independently. I still can't decide if I want a completely removable belt or all one piece with the skirt. Originally, I didn't think I'd have enough material left over to make arm bands. But turns out I've plenty so I can make arm bands and cover a separate removable belt if I want. Decisions, decisions.

And even though I've upgraded my camera, I still have it on "email" quality for pics like this for my blog. I can fit a few thousand pics on the memory card this way. Blows my mind, technology.

New Camera + Costuming

More on the new costume:

Boulder Holders covered with felt and then fabric.

Side straps made from layers of interfacing, felt and covered with fabric.

Hobby Lobby score - beads were 50% off.

I am also in the process of taking apart my old blue glitter dot troupe costume and revamping it into something wearable. The old bra cups in it look like little tea cups compared to the soup kitchen bowl size bra cups I use now.

I'm really excited about my new camera =)

Silver Bedlah Trial Run

I really love this picture by Mom. Although the missing right hand is a bit creepy. Go Greece!

So I squeezed out just enough work to make the silver bedlah wearable. It admittedly still looks like a regular bra with sequins tacked to it, (which it is). I plan on adding to it over time but it worked just fine for the bar/restaurant setting. My next costuming tasks include the alterations to my gold set and starting my metallic pink costume. I found some DD bras at Gordmans, 2 for $10, through a tip from Ananya. At $5 a pop I'll have no trouble cutting them up and making them into real costume bras.

More from March's Greek Night.

Another one for the "mouth-wide-open" archives, by Sa'dia's mom.

These little ladies danced with Sa'dia and helped pick up the money.
Watch out Sa'dia! That hand with money is like a shark lurking in water.

This Thursday - Jordan Through The Ages

Reception - Jordan Through The Ages: An Archaeological Exhibit

Date and Time:
Thursday, March 18, 2010, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Location:
Student Exhibition Center
Event Details:
The Student Exhibition Center presents a unique exhibit "Jordan Through the Ages: An Archaeological Exhibit" from the History Department.  The exhibit will be on display from March 19 to March 31, 1:00 to 5:00 pm, Tuesday to Saturday.  There will be a reception on March 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  The public is invited to attend all dates and any group is welcome. In celebration of launching its first archaeological study abroad program in Jordan, Missouri State will host a multimedia archaeological and ethnographic exhibit.  The exhibit highlights the on-going excavations at Tall Hisban, a medieval Islamic castle site with a Biblical past, and the Northern Jordan Project, an archaeo-environmental project in the northern hill country.  These projects are under the Co-Direction and Direction of Bethany Walker, Associate Professor of Middle Eastern History at Missouri State University.  The artifacts on display come from these excavations and are under study by Missouri State faculty and students.  Collectively they document the journey through time of the peoples of Jordan, from deep antiquity, through the Middle-Ages, and into today’s era. The exhibit is designed by Missouri State students currently studying archaeology and going to Jordan this summer and is co-sponsored by the Department of History of the College of Humanities and Public Affairs, and Phi Alpha Theta, the Anthropology Club, and the Saudi Club, student organizations at Missouri State University. An opening night reception with refreshments and a program will be held Thursday, March 18, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Exhibition Center and is free to the public. Student tours from local public schools are welcome.  For tours and more information on the exhibit, contact the Student Exhibition Center (417-836-6999) or Prof. Walker (417-836-5099).  The Student Exhibition Center is located at 838 East Walnut Street, on the corner of John Q. Hammons Parkway in Springfield, MO.  The center is closed for all University holidays.  Visit our web site or call for more information.

Sokout

I stumbled across this clip from the film Sokout (The Silence), by Iranian born writer/director Mohsen Makhmalbaf. It shows a young girl adorning herself with fruit and flowers and then dancing along to the sounds of a blind boy tuning the strings of an instrument. I wish the dancing wasn't cut but kept going.
