Happy Anniversary

(The Husband Person and me the week we were engaged, Ueno Station, Tokyo 2006, pic by Jman)

Today, on my anniversary, I am on the couch surfing the net in my pj's with coffee. The Husband Person is curled up on the love seat asleep (all 6 foot 4 inches of him). I am still as happy as I was the week we got engaged.

Aahhh....makes you puke a little, huh?

Dance - Tastic Tuesday: Daft Bodies

The original Daft Body ladies bust out some techno moves.
It's been a while since I've watched this. If you haven't seen it you will enjoy their ingenuity.

The men give it a go. Pretty good, although you have to wait through their inflated ego intros at the beginning.

WWND?

WWND? - pic by Treszka

Hey there! So me and AH. came up with a slogan for dancing...

WWND - (What Would Naima Do?)

At our last performance, AH. made the crowd cheer and whoop for her by putting her hands up and making a "come on" gesture. I told her it was a good way to get the audience going and she said "I just thought, what would Naima do?"

I thought you'd chuckle at that...

Hope you're doing well!

Love, A

Jinxy Week Continues: Rain and Greek Night

Naima and Sa'dia looking ractacular for GO Magazine

So we were rained out of the Hootin' and Hollarin' festival on Saturday. The parade was canceled and half of the vendors had closed or packed up to leave. I know this because we walked around in the rain with our umbrellas. When we left our house I put on "comfy" lace slip-ons because it wasn't raining then. My feet were soaked for the next 3 hours.

I drove the 2 hours back in and out of down pours in time to eat and get ready for Greek Night. I met up with Sa'dia, put on my costume, and my bra hook snapped before we left to dance. Luckily, I had a sewing kit and sewed it back on with about 5 minutes to spare before heading out the door.

There was a big crowd of 'non' Greeks who were scared to move from their tables. There was very little tipping or dancing. I totally botched my drum solo by ending and posing before the music was over. The second set went better but we only made $24 each in tips for the whole night. The owner accidentally over paid us $100 at the end of the night but we gave it back because we're cool like that.

The GO Magazine people were there and they took our picture. That was fun but we were both sweaty from dancing. My boobs look all squished from my crappy sewing job. I need to revamp the whole bra anyway. It so doesn't fit right anymore. And yes, I am that much shorter than Sa'dia.

*editor's note: " You both look JUST LIKE a Fifi or a Mona el Said (in Sa'dia's case; sorry, Em, you're too short to play the role of Mona :-)). " - KC. *snarf*
Oh yeah, and it was pouring rain again when we left. I arrived home with wet hermes sandals and I had to wash half of my tips in the sink because of muddy footprints and dirt clumps from the rain.

I was so glad to have the whole jinxed week over with, I started Sunday off by spending $6 on 3 pair of earrings and rose-tinted sunglasses at the dollar store. Things seem to be right in the world again.

I am rereading the post I've just written and it seems jumbled and hard to follow. I apologize in advance for the incoherence. Yeah, this is how my week has been.

More Recession Costuming

This cute little halter dress, that is too small for me to wear, becomes....

...This awesome mermaid style dance skirt.

I step into the dress, pulling it up only to my hips, tucking the straps and padded bra cups under my belt. The bonus, I bought the dress on super clearance for under $5.

I plan on wearing this costume again Saturday night.

Not My Day

Detail from "How to Belly Dance for Your Husband" album cover. That guy looks like Ronald Reagan. Can you say, "bikini wax"?

So yesterday, my day started with finding out Greek Night is THIS Saturday. The first I'd heard of it, but OK. So I have 4 days notice. Not a big deal but the Husband Person and I spent all week getting our trip to the annual Hootin' and Holarin' worked out for Saturday. Now we have to cut it short. Because, quite frankly, I need the money I'll make at Greek Night.

About 2hrs later the power went out. Again not a big deal but I telecommute from home. So I took my lunch early waiting on the power to come back up. I then had to work late in order to make up the time I lost.

Then the soap pump at the kitchen sink quit working and when I took it apart I bent my finger nail back and dropped a piece of the pump down the sink. Now the pump is officially broken and my finger still hurts, particularly while typing.

After dinner I sat down with my silver bedlah to do some beading while watching TV. I had finished the left cup a few days ago and began work on the right cup. About 2 hours into it I realized I had been beading the upper bra design on the bottom of the bra cup...As in I had beaded it completely UPSIDE DOWN!!

After some debate with the Husband Person, we decided the beading looked kinda cool because of the asymetrical turn of the trim on the two cups. So I continued beading, but not before some how snipping the eye of my beading needle in half with my scissors...yeah, I don't know either.

Anyway, I was hoping my next blog post would be about something fun and Bellydancetastic but this is all you get...that and the pic of Ronald Reagan up there.

Crafty Bits

(the green smears are my left over sketch marks for symmetry)

I did some mehndi on a mutual friend last night. It took me about 1 1/2 hour from set up, work, to clean up. Not bad for a novice. The design is a mix of free patterns from the internet with some of my own doodles to bring it all together.

I use Henna Caravan products. I used their pre-mixed paste for this. Two month old mix actually. This henna was bought right before the 4th of July, used, and then the leftover was stored in my freezer until last night. I have used their powdered henna and mixed it myself. It is also excellent quality. The henna stains usually last around 3 weeks on us pale white mid-western gals.

The Henna Page - Everything you ever need to know about henna and mehndi.
Henna Caravan - My favorite henna vendor.

I found 4yds of this, the most awesomest pink metallic lame fabric last weekend. This was not the droid I was looking for but I bought it anyway with my mom's discount. It must sit on a shelf for a bit until other projects are finished.

I've also been playing with polymer clay. I made the above skull beads from this pattern. Mine aren't as cute. Nor do they have the eyeballs.

This was an experiment with how small and detailed I could be. Not too bad for a first try but I've managed to break some of the detail off the outer edge. It's ok though. I meant to beat on it and see how hard it would be to break once I was done.
