Bellydance in Local Magazine

Now watching: a Beautiful Mind
mood: throw'd rolls and fried okra

During the recent ICE STORM 2007! (you have to yell it like that) I came into ownership of the Sept. issue of 417 Magazine, (Sept 2006, Vol 9 Issue 9. p.46.) It contains a small article featuring the local bellydance meetup. I wanted to scan it into PDF but technology is not my friend right now. So, I took this fabulous picture of it that you can click on and hopefully read for yourself.
I must say that I don't like the article. I have yet to read any BD article in a non-bellydance publication that I like. Regardless of the authors intentions they always seem to come off condescending and use cheap bellydance cliches from the 70's instead of a thesaurus. I also really loathe 417 Magazine but read it when I come across one, (kinda like the people who hate Howard Stern but listen to him anyway just to justify their hatred for his show.) But here it is and you can decide for yourself.
Yes, I know the benefits of BD being highlighted in a popular magazine, bringing it to the masses and such. But deep down, I feel made fun of afterward. I'd almost rather have people in the world have misconceptions about BD then by reading a sub-par article and developing even more misconceptions when they try to read between the lines. Yeah, I know, want in one hand...
I worked a bit on my yellow costume. Right now, the skirt makes me look like a buoy floating in the ocean. Not to mention the yellow makes me look a little sickly. I have to figure out how to make it look a little more sculpted and add a complimentary color. I originally wanted to wear it for this Saturday's Greek Night but no go.

Visioncon Cooties

Now watching: Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Mood: Chocolate Coffee and pizza bites

Sorry for slacking on the posts. We finally got our home internet up and running yesterday. Unfortunately, Heath and I have been sick with some sort of flu we probably got at last week's Visioncon. Fever and head crud all 'round. Visioncon was a lot of fun. This is the only pic I have, taken by Jman. No pics of RMT or any dancing, sorry. I do have some dance related posts to make. Maybe later tonight.
Oh, and I've lost my CD case with my favorite dance CDs in it.. GRRR!

RMT @ Visioncon

now watching: THX 1138
mood: fish sticks with ketchup

So, I was totally doing figure 8's in the middle of the kitchen while fixing myself lunch today. This post isn't all that fantastic. However, for those of you coming to Visioncon this weekend, Red Moon Tribe is performing on Saturday around 2pm. I am volunteering at registration again this year. Whoo Hoo! Also, I used to post what I was listening, watching, etc. along with my current food craving. I have decided to reinstitute that =)

Mind on My Money

Thanks to everyone who sent warm wishes and goodies to our family regarding Duke. They were much appreciated.
Laleh and I were chatting the other day about BD workshops. My husband and I are in the process of trying to start a business so my money, time, and other resources are being directed away from BD this year. I got to thinking and realized I went to 6 workshops last year. $$$$$
One of them I didn’t technically pay for but I was also sick during it and just sat on the sidelines hacking into tissues the whole day. There was actually a 7th one I wanted to go to but it was right after our wedding so I thought best to forgo it. I have decided for this year that I want to go to the Jim Boz workshop in Sedalia because it is cheap and close and I very much enjoyed his workshop last year. However, Zahava told me the other day that Fifi Abdo is coming to Dallas in May. %@$%#! We drove down there last year to see Nagwa Fouad, who unfortunately is struggling with health problems making the workshop less than good. I was fairly disappointed with her class but when she preformed that night she really perked up and gave a little bit of herself, figuratively speaking. So the money and time spent on that workshop was more for the, “I was there!” than anything else.
As for the rest of the workshops out there, I will have to make myself pass on them. And of course no new costumes (that I don’t craft myself,) and stay out to the world section of the CD isle in Borders. I have mountains of BD music I should exploit to the fullest.
On a side note, work informed me late this week that our mandatory overtime is going up to 40hrs for the month of Feb. That’s pretty much 50hr work weeks (including this one.) I have been working overtime for a year now.
*sigh* please shoot me…

Customer Appreciation Month

...ends Feb. 15, 2007 at Dahlal International. This is the time of year you can get 25% off BD costumes, supplies, music, etc. Dahlal is having the Lost Treasure market this Sat. the 3rd.
*SIGH*
Why must you taunt me with your goodies?

By the way, class was canceled this week due to weather. We didn't get to try our hand at Improv. Instead I worked on sewing the bra for my yellow costume. So far it has gone smoothly. Which means it will become the bane of my existence in the very near future.
