Halfway done!
Supplies:
- Sew-on acrylic gems
- Sequins
- Seed beads
- Rocaille beads
- Beading needle and Beading thread or equivalent (I use upholstery thread)
- All-purpose sewing thread and needle
Time to pick up from last week after sewing on the line(s) of coin fringe. If you have not sewn on your fringe, now is the time! My rule of thumb on decorating is if I don't like the way it looks keep adding more. I have never looked at a costume and thought, "Hmmm, not bad... If it only had more sequins." Now is your chance to get creative!
Here is a link list of the beading techniques I have used in my design:
I used a variation of the Rope along the edge of the cups and along the fringe line to cover the stitching. I thought a sequin in middle of each rope would resemble smaller coins and tie in with the coin fringe. It also gives the edges a neat texture.
Ropes along cup edge
Ropes covering line where fringe is stitched to the cups.
Mushrooms beaded around the gems. I could have added Ropes too but it would have been a tight squeeze to fit both.
I chose to switch to Sandwiches along the side straps and bottom of cups because I don't want to scratch my underarms with sequins when I dance. It is also one less thing to get my hair caught in.
Tea Cups used to fill the open space around the gems, Sandwiches and Ropes complete.
Next Task 6: Decorating and adding shoulder straps
- Grosgrain Ribbon (or layers of felt, interfacing, or equivalent)
- Base Fabric
- All-purpose sewing thread
- All-purpose sewing needle
- Scissors
- Pins
- Tape Measure
- Thimble
- Sewing machine, (everything can be hand sewn)

On a personal note:
The Husband Person and I are looking for a new place to live. We will be busy packing and preparing for a move so my sew along updates may get a little inconsistent over the next few weeks.
Bonus Pic!
I am in the process of adding a bra extension to dance friend Naia's pro costume. We also added 4 1/2inches to the skirt! Pics of that later.

ReplyDeleteNice costume. I love the red color. On the other hand, with belly dancing One must look at their performance as a whole, a complete presentation that flows seamlessly from beginning to end.
