Radio Bastet - Vintage Belly Dance Music
I found a great pod cast style site called Radio Bastet - Vintage Belly Dance Music that features BD music from the 50s-80s. Each cast includes the track info and album art. The sound quality is also pretty good. It's worth checking out just for the album art. Currently, there are 60 programs for your listening pleasure.

BD Vlog 07: Beading
The terribly boring part of making your own bellydance costume is the beading. Repetitive and slow, here is a glimpse of me working on a costume bra.

St Louis Weekend Adventure
My trip St. Louis this past weekend was not bellydance related, but low and behold, bellydance found me. The Way Ladies stopped at Dunaway Books and there on a newspaper rack was an issue of The St Louis Sinner with a fantastic cover shot of Deserae. The article is actually about a local photographer but they choose Deserae for the cover shot. I have met Deserae who is a fantastic dancer and one hell of a costume maker. She showed me a costume once that had glow-in-the-dark beads hidden in with the rhinestone bling. I thought (and still think) that was the coolest thing ever!
Other special finds from the weekend-
All the meats you could want @ Soulard Farmers Market
A beautiful day
Found: one deer leg in city trashcan on antique row. wtf?
"Mrs Robinson" @ Gringo Jones Imports
Me and Lola @ Gringo Jones Imports (she is standing on my lap)
@ McDonalds in Rolla, MO.

What Ever Happened to that Gypsy Lady?
Zivah, Naima, and KC - May 09
I previous mentioned one of 2 studios that where going through a transition. One of which is Red Moon Tribe, who I've had the privilage to dance and travel with on many occasions. RMT's director Zivah has had the wonderful opportunity to move with her family to work and live on a homestead here in the Ozarks. You can read about her adventures here at Ten Springs Farm.
When a dancer takes on a new job or moves to take on a new challenge in her life I like to reflect on how many different people lives' the Dance is a part of. Professionals, Journalists, Desk Jockeys, Homesteaders, Programmers, Art Directors, Beauticians, Students, etc. The Dance can really connect all different types of people.
Meanwhile, the 'Tribe' is transitioning into a new phase of leadership and organization, and I'm sure we will see many awesome things from them soon.

Rembetika Hipsters, Oh How I Love Thee
Rembetika Hipsters from Big Sky Sessions on Vimeo.
I feel a little bit like a stalker when I discover a new post/video/song from Rembetika Hipsters. Like a pervert creeping around their house at night peeking in the windows waiting for a gratuitous crotch shot while touching myse...
Um...I mean, I get a little more excited than I probably should.
Like, I'd totally change my religion for an opportunity to dance with them live. Some day I will make it to Calgary! Click to watch it full screen, it's really nice quality video.

Dancing Dance
Here is the video of the choreo I taught in Buffalo, MO. 2008. I don't like this performance because I was tired and sloppy. But hey, I never said I was a professional.

Naima's Bellydance Blog on Facebook
Naima's Bellydance Blog

Promote Your Page Too
So, I've had a FB page for a while but refused to be friends with, well, most of my friends because I wanted more personal privacy than FB could give. I broke down and made a separate fan page for all of my bellydance friends, family, and otherwise. This should make it easier for the folks who prefer this contact method. Although, I really do enjoy telling people I won't be their friend.
Go forth and add me!

Dance Tastic: B-Boys
What do you get when a gymnast has rhythm?
Some pretty amazing B-Boys. Why this isn't an Olympic sport I don't know. I mean they are strong, flexible, have impeccable timing, and fashion. They probably wouldn't pass a drug/alcohol test... but who cares?

Bule Glitter Dot in the Wings
Well, the "Chingia" starting spreading up my cheek, around my mouth, and down my neck, as well as spread around my wrist and onto the other arm. I went to Urgent Care on Saturday, got a shot of steroids, and a prescription for Prednisone and antihistamines. The doctor diagnosed me with contact dermatitis even though I still don't know what from. I haven't done any yard work and no one I know has anything contagious. So my videos are on hold while I give my face time to heal. Lucky for me I work from home and can spend all day looking like I have face rot. The Husband Person has been singing, "Y o u a r e s o BOOOTY-ful, t o MEEEEE!" I just hope I'm cleared up enough by this Friday for my trip to St. Louis with the "Way" Ladies.
Meanwhile, I kept changing my mind about the pink-holo costume color scheme so I set it aside and started work on revamping my first troupe costume in blue glitter dot. I've started a little bead work on the skirt and covered a new set of cups. The idea for this one is to add just a little bling to make it look a bit more modern and less homemade. Here are some action shots of it from a previous post. It never had a fringe belt. That is the silver belt I just got done revamping for the last Greek Night hidden under a matching chunk of fabric so only the fringe would show. Glitter dot fabric is so noisy it is hard to decorate without it getting lost in the shininess or making it noisier. I may add some of the fuchsia beads I bought for pink-holo as a nice contrast. Sky blue and fuchsia are surprisingly complimentary.

BD Vlog 05: How did you learn to BD?
Technically this is more about why I began bellydance than how I learned. I get a little weepy there for a minute.
